Ten notes for one moment, played on repeat.

Thankful on the Trail

Play it as you set off on a walk or a hike, with one earbud in so you can still hear the world around you. It takes two or three minutes. Let it loop for the first part of the walk, then turn it off and simply notice.

  6. Someone looks after this place, and I’m glad to be in it.
  7. Out here, my worries shrink. The sky is big, and I’m one person under it.
  8. This walk is a pocket of the day that’s just for me.
  9. Something I’d normally miss is right here, a flower or a pattern in the bark.
  10. One deep breath. Thankful to be here, right now, outside.

Why it’s written this way

A walk outside can be just another task on the list, done fast with your head full of the day. This loop slows it down and turns it into a short gratitude practice. It starts with your pace, because noticing is hard at full speed.

The notes move through the senses one at a time: the ground under your feet, the air in your lungs, the colors around you, the sounds you can hear. Each is something you can check right now, which makes the gratitude feel real rather than abstract.

The middle notes widen the view to the place itself and the people who care for it, then to how small worries can feel under a big sky. The note about one small thing you’d normally miss trains a habit of noticing that tends to stay with you after the walk. The intro suggests switching it off partway through, because the loop’s real job is to hand you over to the walk itself.
