Why it’s written this way

Friendships are easy to take for granted because, unlike family or work, nothing formal holds them in place. They last because people keep choosing each other. This loop starts there: someone chose you as a friend, and that’s worth noticing.

The notes move through different kinds of friends, each in its own note: old friends who know your history, newer ones still getting to know you, the one who makes you laugh, the one who shows up in hard times, the ones far away. Picturing a specific person for each note makes the gratitude feel real.

The later notes reflect on how friendships change and how they’ve shaped you, then turn gratitude into action, being a good friend back and saying what they mean to you. It ends on friends as one of the best parts of life, a line that’s easy to believe once you’ve pictured them.
