Ten notes for one moment, played on repeat.

Permission to Rest

Play it when you finally sit down at the end of the day, on a day off, or when you notice you’re running on empty. It takes two or three minutes. Let it play twice and do nothing else while it plays. That’s the practice.

  1. Finally, a chance to sit. For a while, I set down what I carry for everyone.
  2. Rest doesn’t wait until everything is done. My body and mind need it now.
  3. I don’t have to be strong every minute. Soft and cared for is allowed too.
  4. The world keeps turning while I rest. Others can manage for a while.
  5. Guilt shows up when I stop. It isn’t proof I’m doing anything wrong.
  6. Someone else can carry part of the load. Asking is a strength.
  7. My worth isn’t measured by how much I do. I matter while I’m resting too.
  8. Small pockets of rest count, like a quiet coffee or an early night.
  9. Rest gives me back some patience, and more of myself.
  10. Shoulders soft. For now, I’m simply here.

Why it’s written this way

Women who hold everything together for family, work and community often hear, from others and from themselves, that they have to be strong all the time. This loop offers the opposite message, gently. It starts by giving you permission to put the load down for a while.

The early notes take on the beliefs that make rest feel wrong: that you have to finish everything first, that you always have to be strong, that everything will fall apart if you stop. Each one gets a kinder, truer answer, including permission to be soft and cared for.

The middle notes deal with the guilt that arrives the moment you sit down, and with asking for help. The note about small pockets of rest makes rest practical rather than something saved for a vacation that never comes. It ends with simply being here, which is the rest itself. If exhaustion doesn’t lift with rest, it’s worth talking to a doctor.
