Ten notes for one moment, played on repeat.

A New Chapter in Retirement

Play it in the morning, while the day is still open, especially in the first months after you stop working. It takes two or three minutes. Afterwards, plan one thing that gives today some shape: a walk with a friend, a class, a project.

Why it’s written this way

Retirement is often pictured as pure relief, but many people find the first months harder than they expected. Work gave their days shape, people and a sense of purpose. This loop names that honestly in its second note, so feeling a little lost doesn’t come as a shock.

The third note separates who you are from the job you did, which is a common struggle after a long career. Then the loop builds the things that tend to make retirement satisfying: some structure, people, new things to learn, movement you enjoy and ways to share what you know. Each gets its own note, so you can pick the one that fits today.

The rest note balances the rest of the loop, because a full retirement doesn’t need to be a busy one. It ends with the chapter being yours to write, one good day after another, which turns an open calendar into an invitation.
